Hello friends! When I last blogged on this site, one of my most popular segments was my sermon notes from Elevation Church. At first, I wasn’t sure that I was going to bring that back, but I’ve decided, at least for the time being, that I will. So here are my notes for Pastor Steven Furtick’s sermon Stop Staring at That Stone. From Elevation Church on April 5, 2026. (Easter Sunday)

These are only my own personal notes. Context is needed. Make sure that you go and watch this sermon for yourself.

Sermon Notes : Stop Staring At That Stone

  • The story did not end in defeat.
  • John 20:1&2; 11-18
  • You’ve been focused on some of the wrong things.
  • Angel’s response vs. Mary’s response.
  • Praise vs. Your problem.
  • Some of the things you see as a problem today might be a praise tomorrow.
  • Walk toward the tomb while weeping; that’s a faith worth emulating.
  • Same picture, different perspective.
  • Dream bigger, see God bigger, praise bigger.
  • Crying over something we didn’t really lose, that we never had to begin with.
  • He speaks to my issues, and shows me my identity.
  • Sometimes, it’s not what you’re looking at, but how you’re looking at it.
  • Change the angle you are looking at your life.
  • Not robbed – Risen!
  • Problem or a platform. An opportunity for God to do what only he can do.
  • Sometimes our pain has a way of blocking our perspective.
  • The devil can get you so discouraged that you can’t see God through your tears.
  • In transition it’s hard to see God.
  • God is moving before I know that he is.
  • God moves in the dark.
  • We are trapped because we don’t feel is presence like we used to.
  • God has not left your life, he just changed places.
  • Sometimes I’m looking for the right person in the wrong place.
  • There is no “they” in the world that is stronger than God.
  • Stop giving the enemy credit for what God is doing.
  • He wasn’t lying, he was standing.
  • He got up.
  • It’s turnaround time.
  • Turn from the stone to the savior.
  • Matthew 21:42
  • God did that.
  • Why are you weeping when he won?
  • John 19:41
  • Jesus is seeking you.
  • He knows where to find you.
  • He’s close enough for you to touch, but you’ve got to turn around.
  • You’d can’t trust your tears.
  • Pivot from the past and put it behind you.
  • Rolled stones make good dance floors.

So there it is! Lots of great takeaways from Stop Staring At That Stone.
